An Update On Our Efforts To Accelerate The Large-Scale Application Of AI In Robotics

An Update On Our Efforts To Accelerate The Large-Scale Application Of AI In Robotics

To improve the state-of-the-art in intelligent and safe robotics, Amazon is recruiting Pieter Abbeel, Peter Chen, and Rocky Duan and licensing Covariant’s robotic foundation models.

Amazon has been a leader in supply chain, logistics, and warehouse automation for many years. It developed and deployed the largest fleet of industrial robotics in the world and pioneered the use of machine learning models. The hundreds of thousands of mobile robots, robotic arms, and other automation systems in our operations are powered by AI technology and AWS infrastructure, helping our staff fulfill billions of client orders annually. AI is used by Amazon systems such as Sequoia, Proteus, and Robin to comprehend the physical environment and perform tasks in a safe and dependable manner while assisting our operations personnel.

Many of the orders we send today are handled by our robotic fleet, which moves inventory, sorts products, and recognizes customer orders. In order to make our operations safer and more effective for our staff, they take on the heavy lifting and repetitive jobs. We have been intensely focused on learning from and consistently enhancing the movement of our inventory at our sites and the ways in which our robotics systems interact with them throughout the years and through all of this activity. In order to apply these findings to create AI models that make our systems even safer and more flexible at scale, we’ve been hard at work conducting basic research. This research is assisting in the creation of innovative applications for robots that will benefit our staff and enhance customer service.

We have a new business arrangement with Covariant to help expedite this innovation and the benefits it will bring to Amazon customers and beyond. Based in the Bay Area, Covariant develops cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) models that empower robots to observe, think, and respond to their environment, enabling a variety of warehouse automation applications. We are impressed by the Covariant team’s iterative, customer-focused approach to creating technologies that address the most difficult warehouse automation problems, as well as their in-depth knowledge of the entire process. Amazon is granted a non-exclusive license to utilize Covariant’s robotic foundation models as a result of our agreement. The models developed by Covariant will contribute to the development of novel approaches for generalizing the learning processes of our robotic systems and offer flexible options for using automation to improve customer service and operational safety. To capitalize on elite talent and push the boundaries of automation, Amazon intends to expand its AI and robotics team in the Bay Area.

A quarter of Covariant’s current workforce, including Pieter Abbeel, Peter Chen, Rocky Duan, and a group of research scientists and engineers, will join Amazon’s Fulfillment Technologies & Robotics Team to drive the development and integration of Covariant’s technology within Amazon’s operations and to continue developing cutting-edge artificial intelligence solutions. In addition to serving its numerous clients, Covariant will advance its technology, which facilitates fulfillment and distribution center automation.

Joseph Quinlivan, Vice President, Amazon Fulfillment Technologies & Robotics, stated, “We’re thrilled to welcome some of Covariant’s talented team to Amazon and look forward to building on this technology with them to deliver the next generation of robotics that will drive forward the state-of-the-art in automation.” “We will push foundational research with some of the brightest minds around, combining our wealth of experience to discover new applications for AI and robots to support our operations staff. The incorporation of Covariant’s artificial intelligence technology into our current robot fleet will enhance their performance and generate tangible benefits for our clients.

We’re excited to share more and invite other robotics and AI academics and technologists to join us for all the future innovation.

Cuts Will Have A “Profound Effect” On Services, Robison Says.

Cuts Will Have A "Profound Effect" On Services, Robison Says.

The finance secretary has issued a warning that cuts to the Scottish government’s budget will have a “profound effect” on its capacity to provide services.

Ahead of a statement today in which she is likely to reveal significant cuts to public services in Scotland, Shona Robison further asserted that the UK is entering a “new era of austerity” under the Labour government at Westminster.

Weekend newspaper reports said that non-essential spending has already been stopped and that the cuts may have a total value of over £500 million.

Ms. Robison claims she has little choice because of funding cuts made by the UK government, but Labour argues an October budget that is “painful” is necessary to fill a “black hole” in public finances left by the previous Conservative government.

“A new austerity era”

According to Ms. Robison, “it is evident that we are embarking on a completely new phase of austerity under the Labour government.

“Our capacity to serve the people of Scotland will be severely impacted by the cuts they are proposing, but the SNP government will make every effort to shield the populace and public services from the budget cuts Westminster is making.”

She also stated that the budget of her administration would remain “balanced”.

But according to a report released last week by the Scottish Fiscal Commission (SFC), an independent economic forecaster, “the Scottish government’s own decisions are responsible for a large portion of the pressure.”

According to its assessment, the Scottish government’s “room for manoeuvre now and in the future” had been reduced due to social security reforms, a freeze on council taxes, and more generous public sector pay accords than other regions of the UK.

The Scottish government has already announced that peak rail fares will return, that free bus travel for asylum seekers will end, that a plan to give iPads to those who are “digitally excluded” will be postponed, and that universal winter heating payments for seniors will be discontinued.

Concerns about the effects on Scotland’s cultural scene and environmental organizations have already been voiced.

On Wednesday, First Minister John Swinney is scheduled to give a speech to the Scottish

Parliament introducing his first Program for Government.

He stated that the government needs to work “smarter and harder” during his speech to the SNP conference over the weekend, but he refuted claims that the party was imposing austerity in Scotland.

He stated on Monday on the BBC’s Good Morning Scotland that the administration that was devolved was “living within its means”.

Prior to this, Ms. Robison told BBC Scotland News that the devolved countries required greater “fiscal flexibility” and that the Scottish budget was being negatively impacted by Labour Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ cuts.

Michael Marra, the finance spokesman for Scottish Labour, said that the SNP was engaging in “secrecy and spin” about the nation’s finances.

“It’s time for the SNP to tell us the truth about what lies ahead and come clean about the financial chaos it has created,” he declared. The SNP has promised to protect “essential” jobs from cuts, but it has not provided any clarification on what exactly qualifies as a “essential” position.

“Public sector employees are experiencing uncertainty as a result of this incompetence and lack of planning, while service leaders are experiencing chaos and urgently require clarity.”

According to Scottish Conservatives finance spokeswoman Liz Smith, any additional tax increases would be “devastating” and that the SNP has created a “high tax, low growth environment” that should be overturned.

“Hard choices”

The leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, Alex Cole-Hamilton, claimed that the SNP was in “a mess” because their priorities were independence over public services.

He added: “This statement needs to contain a commitment to growing the economy and a grovelling apology for the amount of money that has been wasted”.

The Scottish Greens demanded that “human rights and equality at its heart” be at the center of the next Programme for Government.

A spokesman for the UK government stated that in order to close a £22 billion deficit in public finances left by the previous administration, “tough decisions” were being made.

“We are dedicated to collaborating with the Scottish government on our common goals to strengthen the economic foundations, in order to rebuild Britain and improve the lives of all people living in the United Kingdom,” they continued.

Protests And A Strike Push For A Deal With The Hostages In Gaza

The largest labor union in Israel claims that thousands of people participated in the nationwide strike it organized to put pressure on the government to reach an agreement with Hamas on a truce in Gaza and the release of hostages.

After a court declared that the Histadrut strike was primarily political and ordering everyone to return to work, businesses, schools, and transportation were all affected.

In addition, thousands participated in new demonstrations organized by the relatives of the hostages to voice their dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s inability to free their loved ones after over 11 months.

Following the discovery of the six hostages’ deaths on Saturday, there has been a heightened level of tension. Israel said that Hamas had fired and murdered them.

Many argue that Mr. Netanyahu is obstructing a deal in order to put his own political survival first, a charge he denies.

In order to undermine his chances of remaining in office, his far-right friends have threatened to leave the coalition government if he accepts a settlement that requires a long-term peace before Hamas is destroyed.

In reaction to the massive onslaught on southern Israel on October 7, which resulted in around 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages, the Israeli military began a campaign to eliminate Hamas.

Since then, the health ministry in Gaza, which is governed by Hamas, has reported over 40,780 deaths in the region.

See what’s new in Gaza and Israel.

Mediators from the US, Egypt, and Qatar are attempting to mediate a cease-fire agreement that would see Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons exchanged for the 97 hostages that Hamas is currently holding, 33 of whom are thought to be dead.

US President Joe Biden responded, “No,” when reporters in Washington questioned him about whether he believed Mr. Netanyahu was going far enough to reach an accord.

After meeting with US mediators, he stated he was “very close” to giving Israel and Hamas what the US media had described as a final plan.

The countrywide strike started at 6:00 local time (03:00 GMT), and Histadrut spokesperson Peter Lerner told the BBC on Monday morning that it had affected both the public and commercial sectors of the Israeli economy.

He said that ports were “slowing their activity,” that suitcases were “piling up at Ben Gurion International Airport,” and that some communities were taking part.

Although Israeli media reported that departures were halted for two hours in the morning, a spokesman for Ben Gurion Airport claimed that operations were proceeding “as usual”.

The adjacent city of Tel Aviv also had sporadic indications of the strike. Numerous people were walking about the streets and cafés, the most of the businesses and restaurants seemed to be open, and some busses were operating.

Nearly all of the local bars and restaurants closed on Sunday night in support of the protests, but they have already reopened, a café employee told the BBC. She murmured, “I disagree with the decision.” “We ought to have shut down.”

“I don’t agree with the strike,” a different woman said as she picked up a street scooter. We need to live; we cannot halt everything, even though we want the hostages back.

Subsequent to the government’s request for an injunction, the Tel Aviv Labour Court decided that the strike must terminate at 11:30 GMT on April 30. The court ruled that the strike was mostly political and lacked any economic justification.

Arnon Bar-David, the chairman of Histadrut, said he supported the strike while still respecting the decision.

“Hundreds of thousands of citizens voted with their feet, despite attempts to paint this solidarity in political colors,” the speaker declared.

“We have demonstrated that the hostages’ fate is a matter of life or death, and we will not permit lives to be abandoned. It is neither a right-wing or left-wing issue.

Bezalel Smotrich, the far-right Finance Minister, claimed that Israelis had demonstrated their independence from “political needs” by going to work “in droves.”

Speaking about the leader of the Palestinian armed group, “We won’t allow harm to the Israeli economy and thereby serve the interests of [Yahya] Sinwar and Hamas,” he declared.

Members of the Gevurah Forum, which opposes the proposed hostage arrangement and speaks for the families of soldiers killed in action, demonstrated against the strike outside the prime minister’s office in Jerusalem. As reported by the Times of Israel, they chanted, “Shutting down the economy is a prize for Hamas.”

“Today, we have power in the government, and I’m not ashamed to say that we’re using this power to prevent a reckless deal and to stop any negotiations altogether,” far-right politician Itamar Ben-Gvir, the minister of national security, declared to the assembly.

Meanwhile, the captives and Missing Families Forum, which speaks for some of the families of the captives, demanded new protests in order to press for an expedient resolution.

Thousands of demonstrators reportedly flocked to the streets in different cities, according to Israeli media.

Huge crowds stopped a central Tel Aviv highway, and in what has come to be known as Hostages’ Square, six yellow wreaths bearing the word “sorry” were also placed.

According to the captives Families Forum, it’s a message to the captives Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi, and Master Sgt Ori Danino, whose remains were discovered by Israeli forces on Saturday in an underground tunnel in the Rafah area of southern Gaza.

All six were “brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists shortly before we reached them,” according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

According to the Israeli health ministry, post mortem exams revealed that they had been shot and killed by “several close-range gunshots” and had died between 48 and 72 hours before they were discovered, or between Thursday and Friday morning.

Hamas denies such accusation, claiming that Israeli soldiers killed the hostages.

Several relatives said that Mr. Netanyahu had blood on his hands after the dead were found.

Chants of “murderer” were heard during Sunday night’s largest protests in Israel since the war’s beginning, which drew hundreds of thousands of participants from all over the nation. “Alive, alive, we want them alive,” other people chanted.

Although most of the rallies were nonviolent, demonstrators in Tel Aviv managed to scale police barriers and shut down a busy roadway. Police claimed that 29 persons had been taken into custody.

“We have asked the citizens of Israel to join us on the streets for months,” said Sharone Lifschitz, whose father Oded, 84, is one of the hostages still held, to the BBC. Now they are out on the streets with us. This is a really amazing breakthrough.

“I want the Israeli government to do the right thing and find a way to bring these people home, to finish and reach a ceasefire, and to look beyond the narrow interests of their own political parties and their own survival.” We are aware of our limited time,” she remarked.

In a video statement on Sunday, Mr. Netanyahu restated that Israeli negotiators had reached a hostage release agreement at the end of May, which Hamas had rejected.

He said, “Hamas is continuing to steadfastly reject all proposals, despite Israel having been holding intense negotiations with the mediator in an ultimate effort to reach a deal in recent days.” Even worse, it killed six of our hostages at that precise moment. Whoever kills hostages is not interested in making a bargain.

Hamas attributed the captive murders to Israel and the US, claiming that they had made further demands for a settlement, among them the permanent Israeli occupation of the vital Philadelphi corridor, a slender buffer zone that hugs Gaza’s southern border with Egypt.

Khalil al-Hayya, a member of the Hamas political bureau, stated, “The occupation army, Netanyahu, and his extremist government are the reason why these people lost their lives. The six hostages and others could have been released to their families as part of a real exchange deal while they were alive.”

Despite the Royal Family’s “serious issues” with King Charles, Camilla made a significant commitment.

Despite the Royal Family's "serious issues" with King Charles, Camilla made a significant commitment.

Later this week, Queen Camilla is scheduled to make a triumphant comeback to public appearances when she pays a visit to RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire.

She is returning to her formal duties with this visit, which comes after the Royal Family’s yearly summer break in Balmoral, according to GB News.

In her capacity as RAF Leeming’s Honorary Air Commodore, Queen Camilla will interact with air force members and their families while also touring the base’s state-of-the-art military equipment.

Group Captain Paul Hamilton, the Station Commander at Leeming, will present her to the pilots of 11 Squadron QEAF, who teach British and Qatari pilots on Hawk aircraft, during her visit.

The Queen will also have meetings with experts from No. 2 Counter Uncrewed Air Systems and 90 Signals Unit, who teach soldiers to defend against drone threats and work in cyber-defense.

Aside from the technological highlights of her visit, Camilla will take a tour of RAF Leeming’s “wellness area,” which includes beehives, allotments, a polytunnel modeled after a greenhouse, and chicken coops all intended to promote the mental health of staff members and their families.

She will meet the members of the Polytunnel Committee, the kids from the “RAFA Kidz” nursery, and the people who look after the beehives and rare-breed chickens there.

Queen Camilla will meet with members of the base community before leaving, where she will attend a wellness area event and witness a flypast of Hawk jets flown by the British and Qatari servicemen she met earlier.

Reports state that Sophie, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne are “disappointed” in King Charles for the way he handled a family conflict, which coincides with the monarch’s public presence.

It has been stated that Prince Andrew, the younger brother of the King, is under pressure to move out of the Royal Lodge and onto another royal property.

The King’s handling of the matter has reportedly angered Anne, Edward, and Sophie in addition to Sarah Ferguson, Andrew’s ex-wife, and their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. It has also been reported that Queen Camilla is distressed by the way the situation has been handled.

There are disagreements between Eugenie, Sarah, and Beatrice because they firmly believe Andrew is not receiving enough protection.

“He’s even managed to upset Camilla, as she’s the one always bearing the brunt of his irritability.”

Israeli Protestors Reach A “Breaking Point” After Hostage Killings.

Israeli Protestors Reach A “Breaking Point” After Hostage Killings.

Protesters carried empty coffins past Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home on Monday night, claiming that Netanyahu is carrying a far greater load.

The weight of the conflict in Gaza has been greater on Israel’s leader ever since six Israeli hostages were discovered dead in a tunnel there last weekend.

“It broke my heart that they were killed so soon after they had a chance to be saved,” stated Anna Rubin, who participated in a demonstration in Tel Aviv.

Many folks reach a breaking point at that point because they realize nothing will be done by staying at home while they are on edge.

Following the massive rallies that erupted around Tel Aviv last night, tens of thousands of Israelis returned to the streets on Monday. Although a lot of people believe that this is a pivotal time, Prime Minister Netanyahu has been here before.

He has witnessed numerous public protests over the course of months and years. With the backing of a parliamentary majority, he has mainly ignored their requests.

However, many Israelis are not protesting if Mr. Netanyahu is not paying attention.

The labor union of the nation called for a one-day nationwide strike, but it was only sporadically observed, even in liberal Tel Aviv, the nation’s beachside capital.

The majority of the city’s stores and eateries were open after briefly closing on Sunday night in support of the protest.

One of the employees at the neighborhood cafe informed me, “I don’t agree with the decision.”

“We ought to have shut down.”

With her flawless makeup and big shades, Tamara was getting up on a street scooter. She declared, “I disagree with the strike.” “We need to live; we cannot stop everything, even though we want the hostages back.”

Niva, 23, expressed her surprise at how many spots were available. She remarked, “The nation is currently in a very confrontational mood.”

However, the most remarkable altercation isn’t taking place on the sidewalks.

Mr. Netanyahu defied anyone to demand greater concessions from Israel in its negotiations over a truce and hostage arrangement, which is being mediated by the United States, during a televised press conference on Monday night.

“Six of our hostages were executed by these murderers; they were shot in the back of the head,” he declared. And we’re expected to act seriously now that this has happened? We’re expected to give in on something?
g

He claimed that sending Hamas the message, “Kill more hostages [and] you’ll get more concessions,” would be the intended outcome.

He asserted that no one, not even US President Joe Biden, would push him to make any further concessions if they were sincere about bringing about peace and liberating the hostages.

Shortly before, Mr. Biden responded to a question from reporters by saying he didn’t think the prime minister of Israel was doing enough to achieve a ceasefire agreement.

One of Hamas’ main demands is that Israel remove all of its troops from the Philadelphi Corridor, a stretch of land that runs along Gaza’s border with Egypt.

Local media has extensively reported that Israel’s security authorities, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, are in favor of alternatives to maintaining troops on the ground.

In public, Mr. Gallant has urged the cabinet to support a suggested compromise.

Israel’s previous wave of large-scale protests, which were prompted by Mr. Netanyahu’s ambitions for judicial reform, peaked in danger when he attempted to remove Mr. Gallant and was subsequently compelled to reinstate him.

Political expert Tamar Hermann of Israel’s Democracy Institute believes that if he tried that again, it might actually be the catalyst for this protest movement’s real turning point.
She states that there is currently a “zero” threat from protesters to him.

The majority are left-wing critics whose grievances against the prime minister extend well beyond the Gaza hostage situation.

“Netanyahu is more knowledgeable than I am,” she remarked, “so the best course of action is to let it act as a safety valve and let people accuse you of being a murderer.”

For the time being, at least, Prime Minister Netanyahu appears to think he can withstand the demands for a compromise being made from the street because of his parliamentary majority.

However, it might be more difficult to disregard the demands made by the US president and his own defense minister.

Antonio Banderas is Thrilled About Stella, His Daughter, Being Engaged.

Antonio Banderas is thrilled about Stella, his daughter, being engaged.

The engagement of Antonio Banderas’ daughter Stella to Alex Gruszynski brings him joy.

At the AmfAR Gala in Venice, the Dolittle actor talked to people about Stella’s significant life achievement.

“I feel fantastic! She’s pleased, and I’m happy, the 64-year-old remarked.

He’s amazing, the Babygirl actress told the publication. He was a small child when I first met him.

Antonio received the Global Impact Award from the amfAR Gala, which stated, “His commitment to philanthropy and making a difference in the fight against HIV inspires us all.”

On August 20, Stella’s mother Melanie Griffith announced on Instagram that her daughter had become engaged.

The Working Girl actress also thought back on their transition from childhood pals to soon-to-be spouses.

Stella reportedly followed a career in the family business, joining her mother and half-sister Dakota Johnson in Antonio Ferrero’s 1999 film Crazy in Alabama. She eventually began her career as an actor, model, and businesswoman.

According to the magazine, Antonio’s daughter has accompanied her parents to red carpet events over the years.

The Uncharted star previously discussed spending quality time with his only child, Stella, with people back in 2010.

“Every week, I spend one date night with my daughter,” he said.

“I take her out for dinner by herself so we can talk and spend some time together,” Antonio continued. We simply strive to have dynamic interaction with the family, which is enjoyable as well.

As Protests Continue, Netanyahu Begs For “Forgiveness” Over The Hostage Murders.

As Protests Continue, Netanyahu Begs For "Forgiveness" Over The Hostage Murders.

As additional hostages could be “returned to their families in shrouds” if a truce isn’t achieved, Hamas threatened to release six more hostages on Saturday. Benjamin Netanyahu has begged for “forgiveness” from Israelis for not releasing these hostages.

His remarks coincided with the start of another night of fierce street demonstrations in Israel about his conduct of the negotiations.

International pressure also increased when the UK halted some arms deliveries to Israel, expressing concerns that the equipment would be misused to break international law.

However, Israel’s prime minister adopted a firm stance, demanding that its forces remain in charge of Gaza’s strategically vital Philadelphia Corridor, a bone of contention in talks with Hamas.requests “forgiveness” for the captive murders while the protests go on

In new demonstrations organized by the relatives of the hostages, thousands of Israelis flocked to the streets on Monday to voice their dissatisfaction at Mr. Netanyahu’s inability to free their loved ones after nearly 11 months.

According to The Times of Israel, at one demonstration outside the prime minister’s residence in Jerusalem, police used a great deal of roughness, pushing, throwing, and dragging demonstrators.

A Times of Israel reporter was choked by one police officer, the publication reported.

The most recent protests follow hundreds of thousands of people who staged protests around the nation on Sunday, during which some protesters blocked a key Tel Aviv freeway. Many wore

Israeli flags and strung yellow ribbons from a bridge that overlooked the Ayalon Highway as a show of support for the hostages.

After being taken hostage by Hamas on October 7 of last year, 97 captives are still missing.

In addition to stating that militants tasked with defending hostages have been given “new instructions” to follow in the event that Israeli troops approach them, Hamas claimed on Monday that hostages will be returned “inside coffins” if military pressure from Israel persists.

“Instead of concluding a deal, Netanyahu insists on using military force to free inmates, which means they will be brought to their families in shrouds. A representative for the group stated,

“Their families must decide whether they want them dead or alive,” without going into detail about the specifics of the new directives.

The largest labor union in Israel announced earlier on Monday that hundreds of thousands of people had joined a nationwide strike intended to put pressure on the government to reach an agreement with Hamas on a truce in Gaza and the release of hostages.

Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv reported minimal interruption in spite of this, and a large number of eateries and hotel services continued to run normally. Bezalel Smotrich, the far-right

Finance Minister bragged that Israelis had demonstrated their independence from “political needs” by going to work “in droves.”

A new plan that would be given to the Israeli prime minister as “final” was reported to have been made. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden claimed that Mr. Netanyahu was not going far enough in securing a truce and hostage agreement with Hamas.

Many argue that Mr. Netanyahu is obstructing a deal in order to put his own political survival first—a charge he denies.

In order to undermine Mr. Netanyahu’s chances of remaining in office, his far-right backers have threatened to leave the coalition government if he accepts a solution that requires a long-term truce before Hamas is destroyed.

Mediators from the US, Egypt, and Qatar are attempting to mediate a cease-fire agreement that would see Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons exchanged for the 97 hostages that Hamas is currently holding, 33 of whom are thought to be dead.

A “clear risk” that the equipment could be used to conduct grave breaches of international law led to the suspension of 30 out of 350 arms export licenses to Israel, the UK announced on Monday, according to Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

Parts for drones, helicopters, and fighter jets are among the equipment that is impacted.
According to Mr. Lammy, the UK is still in favor of Israel’s right to self-defense and this does not equate to an arms embargo.

The move has “deeply disheartened” Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who posted on X, and the Foreign Minister Israel Katz, who said it sent a “very problematic message” to Hamas and Iran.

Funeral ceremonies have been performed in the interim for a few of the captives who were slain on Saturday.

Hersh Goldberg-Polin’s mother, who spoke at his burial and revealed that she had been in “such torment and worry” about her son for months, was one of the captives whose body was recovered by Israel on Saturday.

Being her son’s mother, according to Rachel Goldberg-Polin, has been a “stunning honour”. Hersh texted his family two times around the time of his kidnapping, saying, “I love you guys” and “I’m sorry.”

At the funeral, Israel’s President Isaac Herzog addressed the family while mourners filled the streets of Jerusalem.

In reaction to the extraordinary onslaught on southern Israel on October 7, which resulted in over 1,200 deaths and the kidnapping of 251 persons, the Israeli military began a campaign in Gaza to eliminate Hamas.

Since then, the health ministry in Gaza, which is governed by Hamas, has reported over 40,000 deaths in the region.

Russian Airstrikes On Kharkiv Resulted In At Least 41 Injuries.

According to officials, at least 41 persons have been hurt by Russian airstrikes in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

Five children were among the injured, according to regional chief Oleh Syniehubov, who also charged Moscow with “aiming exclusively at civilian infrastructure” in the city.

He said that a grocery and a sports center that locals frequent are among the destroyed facilities.

Following the assaults, President Volodymyr Zelensky declared, “Russia is terrorizing Kharkiv once again, striking civilian infrastructure and the city itself.”

Calls from Mr. Zelensky to his Western partners to “give Ukraine everything it needs to defend itself” were reiterated.

At least ten distinct Russian strikes, including the use of ballistic missiles, have been documented, according to Mr. Syniehubov.

He said that rescue efforts are ongoing and that people might be buried beneath the debris in certain places.

Based on multiple social media recordings of the attacks, BBC Verify has identified two strikes: one three miles south that caused damage to the city’s Palace of Sport buildings, and another northeast of Kharkiv’s center along Akademika Pavlova St.

Photos from every attack show the missile explosion and point of hit.

The attack follows a round of drone strikes by Ukraine on Russian targets during the night, during which two energy facilities caught fire.

Russian officials have not recorded any deaths or injuries.

Moscow and 15 other parts of the country were attacked by over 158 Ukrainian drones, according to Russia’s defense ministry.

The drones were intercepted and destroyed, according to the Russian military.

However, a fire in a “separate technical room” at a Moscow oil refinery started as a result of the attack, according to the mayor of the city.

ccording to Sergei Sobyanin, the capital city and its environs were the target of at least 11 drone attacks.

Meanwhile, there were huge explosions at the Konakovo Power Station in the Tver region, 75 miles (120 km) from the Russian capital.

The factory is reportedly on fire, according to Russian media.

Igor Rudenya, the region’s governor, confirmed that an attack in Konakovsky district had suppressed a fire, although he did not specify what was attacked.

Additionally, local authorities said that drones attempted to target the Kashira Power Plant in the Moscow area, but that no injuries, damage, or fires resulted from the incident.

Videos of explosions at all three locations that have been shared on social media have been analyzed and validated by BBC Verify. Fires appear to have then broken out at the Moscow refinery and Konakovo Power Station in the video.

Ukraine has not responded to the assertions.

However, throughout the past few months, Ukrainian troops have increased their long-range strikes inside Russia, launching numerous drones at critical targets at the same time multiple times a week.

According to sources close to BBC News, hundreds of long-range strikes within Russia are being carried out with the assistance of Western technology and funding.

According to local sources, a Russian air strike on a grain convoy in the Sumy region of Ukraine overnight resulted in the death of a 23-year-old truck driver.

Four other people were hurt in the attack, according to the prosecution, after one lorry caught fire and about twenty more were damaged.

The Ukrainian air force also claimed to have shot down eight of the eleven Russian drones it had been using, and it alleged that the Mykolaiv region’s grain and agricultural infrastructure had also been targeted.

Sumy is adjacent to the Kursk region of Russia, the scene of a military incursion by Ukraine that has lasted for about a month.

Though progress has stalled recently, Ukraine declared last week that it was in possession of 1,294 square kilometers (500 square miles), including 100 villages. It added that over 600 Russian soldiers were taken prisoner.

Moscow has been focusing its ground offensive for months on a major town in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk area, where Russian forces are still moving quickly forward.

Due to its strategic location at the intersection of multiple major routes and the presence of a major railway station, Pokrovsk serves as an essential logistical hub for Ukrainian forces.

The scenario surrounding Russia’s main strike is “difficult,” according to Ukraine’s top commander, Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi, but he also stated that the required choices are “being made without delay.”

The most recent strikes by the Ukrainians against Russian energy installations also occur one day after a 14-year-old girl was killed by a Russian guided bombing on a Kharkiv playground.

Six more persons were killed in a similar attack on a residential building in the city in northeastern Ukraine.

It also comes after Russia launched a devastating barrage of drone and missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy grid last week, killing at least nine people in two days.

Shortly after starting its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia started sending airstrikes against the country’s energy infrastructure.

Increased Security For Prince Harry’s Travel To New York Following An Earlier Incident

Increased Security For Prince Harry's Travel To New York Following An Earlier Incident

The security team assigned to Prince Harry for his forthcoming visit to New York will be strengthened in light of a recent incident that has prompted worries about safety.

This month, the 39-year-old Duke of Sussex is expected to visit New York for the Diana Award Event and to advance some of his charitable endeavors.

The precise dates of his visit are still unknown, although it falls during significant occasions like UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week, according to GB News.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) will have more security on this trip, which Harry is taking on his own without Meghan.

After a “reckless” incident in May 2023, when Harry, Meghan, and her mother were chased by paparazzi across the city after an event at the Ziegfeld Theatre, it was decided to step up security. The couple’s continued safety fears are reflected in the additional security measures, which are paid for by taxpayers.

“We found the following: reckless disregard of vehicle and traffic laws and persistently dangerous and unacceptable behavior on the part of the paparazzi during the night in question,” the NYP chief of intelligence wrote to the Met back in December.

The way the people drove their cars, scooters, and bicycles made the security team—which included an NYPD Lead Car—have to dodge on multiple times and take a detour to avoid getting hit by oncoming cars or stuck on side blocks.

“After consulting with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, we have determined that we have enough evidence to make two arrests for reckless endangerment.”

The Sussexes “were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi,” according to a spokeswoman for the family at the time.

That same week, Prince William’s Earthshot Prize is hosting an event in New York, but the future King has chosen not to attend in person.

Rather, he’ll probably record a video message for the Earthshot Innovation Summit, which happens to be held on September 24 at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.

GB News was informed by royal analyst Richard Fitzwilliams that there seems to be an intentional overlap between the two events.

Fitzwilliams stated: “I believe Harry planned this with timing in mind because he knew it would garner more attention.

“William has no plans to travel to New York for the Earthshot summit.”
