Washington— Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, said on Tuesday that US President Joe Biden had requested $101 million in aid to Pakistan to strengthen democracy and human rights.
Lu added that the cash would be utilized to combat growing terrorism, assist ongoing economic reforms, and provide debt relief to the current administration.
He mentioned this during a briefing on Pakistan and Afghanistan in the United States House of Representatives.
During the briefing, Lu expressed worry over the plight of women and minorities in Afghanistan, emphasizing that relations with the Taliban government could not be normalized unless Afghan citizens’ human rights were protected.
It should be noted that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan blamed Donald Lu for deposing his government in 2022.
