Reserved seats: SC tips the scales in favor of PTI in momentous ruling.
Previously, the Supreme Court overruled the Peshawar High Court’s decision to deprive the PTI of reserved seats for non-Muslim and female candidates in assembly.
In a majority 8-5 judgment, the Supreme Court declared that the Election Commission’s handling of reserved seats was ‘unconstitutional’, adding that the PTI would continue to exist as a political party even without an election symbol.
The ruling was written by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
The PTI is projected to get 65 of the 77 reserved seats. Of the 77 seats, 22 are in the National Assembly and 55 are in the provincial assemblies.
