Early on Thursday, cellular coverage went down across large portions of the United States, causing hundreds of customers to report problems using services provided by telecom companies like AT&T (T.N).
Data from outage tracking website Downdetector.com shows that around 4:30 a.m. ET, more than 32,000 outage events were reported with AT&T’s service. According to the website, San Francisco, Houston, and Chicago were among the affected cities.
According to Downdetector, customers of Verizon (VZ.N), opens new tab, T-Mobile (TMUS.O), and UScellular also reported problems with the telecom companies‘ services.
When Reuters asked the companies for a statement regarding the cause of the outages, they did not reply right away.

On what was once known as Twitter, the fire department posted a statement stating that it was “actively engaged and monitoring this.” “We are aware of an issue impacting AT&T wireless customers from making and receiving any phone calls (including to 911),” the agency wrote.
