Hyderabad, Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan, and Jr NTR were among the prominent film personalities who expressed their condolences following the death of media baron Ramoji Rao, the founder of Eenadu Group and Ramoji Film City.
Rao, who transformed the news and entertainment industries, died at a hospital in Hyderabad early Saturday. He was 88.
In a post on X, Rajinikanth remembered Rao as a mentor and well-wisher, saying he is “deeply saddened” by his passing.
“The man who made history in journalism and cinema, as well as a great political kingmaker.” He was a mentor and inspiration in my life. “May his soul rest in peace. @Ramoji_FilmCity,” the veteran actor wrote.
Chiranjeevi posted an emotional message on X, stating that Ramoji Rao, who was like a mountain that never bowed to anyone, has entered the heavenly abode.
Allu Arjun said Ramoji Rao was a “pioneer and an inspiring visionary” and he has a deep respect for the media baron.
“I can feel his aura every time I shoot at #RFC. His unparalleled contributions to the media, cinema, and a variety of other industries will be remembered forever. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. “May his great soul rest in peace,” he posted on X.
Guinness World Records recognizes Ramoji Film City as the world’s largest film city.
Thousands of films, including SS Rajamouli’s two-part blockbuster “Baahubali” in almost every Indian language and some in Hindi, have been shot at the Ramoji Film City on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Ram Charan of “RRR” credited Ramoji Rao with changing the landscape of regional media with Eenadu.
“The establishment of Ramoji Film City, the world’s largest film studio, has become a watershed moment for filmmakers worldwide. Shri Ramoji Rao Garu will be remembered for his warm personality and significant contributions to the Telugu people. “My heartfelt condolences to his family and admirers,” he said.
Charan’s “RRR” co–star Jr NTR described visionaries like Ramoji Rao as “one in a million”. He recalled working on his debut film, “Ninnu Choodalani,” which was produced by Rao.
“His absence is irreparable, as he is a media tycoon and an Indian cinema legend. The fact that he is no longer with us is very sad. I’ll never forget how I was introduced to the Telugu film industry through the film ‘Ninnu Choodalani’. May his soul rest in peace, and my heartfelt condolences to his family,” he wrote on X.
Filmmaker SS Rajamouli, who directed “Baahubali” and “RRR,” believes Rao should be awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour.
“One man’s 50 years of resilience, hard work, and innovation provided millions of people with jobs, a living, and hope. The only way we can honor Ramoji Rao garu is to bestow the title of ‘BHARAT RATNA’,” he wrote on X.
Allu Arjun responded to Rajamouli’s post, saying, “I had the same feeling in my heart, sir.” You spoke from my heart. Thank you for expressing it.”
Venkatesh Daggubati described Ramoji Rao garu as a “true visionary whose revolutionary work in Indian media has left an unforgettable legacy”.
“His contributions to journalism and film have inspired many people. He will be missed greatly. Our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones. “May his soul rest in peace,” he concluded.
Actress Kajal Aggarwal expressed her grief over Rao’s death. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time. His legacy will continue to inspire others. May his soul rest peacefully. Om Shanti,” read her post on X.
Actor-politician Khushbu Sundar wrote, “Deepest condolences on the passing of a legend, a pioneer in the world of cinema, and the founder of #RamojiRaoStudios, Shri #RamojiRao gaaru.” May his soul rest peacefully. “Om Shanti.”
Actor Varun Tej said Ramoji Rao’s death has left a significant void in journalism and the film industry. “May his soul rest in peace,” he wrote.
Thaman S, a music composer, recalled Ramoji Rao’s support throughout his career in cinema.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Ramoji Rao Gaaru. From 2012 to 2016, he provided us with the best recording and technical support while we worked on all of our musical projects at Symphony Recording Studios. “His support for our musical journey will always be unforgettable,” he wrote on X.
