The Albanian Crown Prince Leka II and Crown Princess Elia Zaharia are in the process of divorcing.
The head of the Albanian royal family announced their split on social media in a recent tweet, following eight years of marriage.
The message on Instagram on Monday said, “Through this post, I officially inform you that Prince Leka and Elia Zharaia have agreed to end their marriage,” as translated.
“Since marriage has lost its function, they have decided to resolve it with mutual consent by starting the necessary legal procedures.”
In addition, the statement stated that Princess Geraldine, their 3-year-old daughter, “will remain at the center of their dedicated attention to ensure a happy and safe life.“
Among friends and supporters, I must notify you that, in light of our shared decision to file for divorce, we began the legal process to settle our marriage today,” she posted on social media, according to Hello!.
“Family values are the most precious thing to me, thus I’m not at all happy with this reality.

The former couple got married in a dreamy ceremony in the former Royal Palace of Tirana back in 2016.
However, Leka was shown alone at Princess Maria Francisca de Braganza and Duarte de Sousa Araujo Martins’ royal wedding in Portugal in October.After the divorce, it’s uncertain if Elia will still hold the title of Crown Princess of the Albanians.
