ISLAMABAD – On Thursday, the Supreme Court took suo moto notice of Senator Faisal Vawda’s press conference in which he criticized superior court judges.
The Supreme Court’s three-member bench will be led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. The other members are Justice Irfan Saadat and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan. The Supreme Court will take up the case tomorrow (Friday).
Addressing a press conference a day earlier, the newly-elected Senator questioned Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Babar Sattar’s claims of judicial influence.
“Merely making accusations isn’t enough; there must be evidence presented in court,” Vawda stated.
The former federal minister urged Justice Babar Sattar to submit evidence of the alleged interference. He also requested that the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) intervene in the matter.
Vawda emphasized the need of protecting the nation from both external and internal threats, and he urged against targeting governmental institutions.
Earlier today, the Islamabad High Court’s Registrar Office responded to Faisal Vawda’s letter, a day after the senator voiced frustration with the court’s failure to answer.
Prior to his appointment, the senator requested information about Justice Babar Sattar’s green card status.
In response, the Registrar Office stated that having citizenship or domicile in another nation does not preclude a person from becoming a judge under the Constitution.
The statement further stated that the high court does not inquire about dual citizenship when a lawyer is appointed as a judge.
