A video of Shaan discussing contemporary musicians during an episode of Chill Sesh with Sapan Verma has surfaced on social media.
Shaan, who has delivered multiple successful songs since the 1990s, recently made a sly dig at today’s artists who take a‘minimalistic’ approach to performing a song. Many have speculated that it was a dig at Prateek Kuhad and Anuv Jain. Also read: Shaan on participating in the Paris Olympics 2024: I have a family tie to it.
A video of Shaan discussing modern-day singers during an episode of Chill Sesh with Sapan Verma has gone viral on social media.
What did Shaan say.
In the video, Shaan is heard saying, “And nowadays people prefer these simple personal type of minimalist songs.” Shaan then makes a gesture of clutching a guitar and humming faintly.
He said, “Matlab sabke tone aise hai na ke agar kuch zyada interest dikha diya toh shayad logon ka interest kum ho jayega. (Everyone’s tone is such that they should not express too much interest in a song; otherwise, people may lose interest.”
“I’m singing it just like that; if you like it, that’s great…” I checked the views and they are approximately 2 billion. Times have changed. People prefer rawness and genuine genuineness. When we used to go to the music company and tell them I sang, they would tell us it wasn’t very good and that we needed more training. “If we had sung like people do today, we would have been thrown out of the building,” he explained.
Music fans ponder.
His comments have left many wondering who among the current crop of musicians he is criticizing, forcing many to guess. The video was uploaded on Reddit, resulting in a platform for discussion among social media users.
“Anuv Jain’s work was the first thing that came to mind,” said one user, who added, “Somebody said it! Prateek Kuhad, Anuv Jain, lifaafa, and Ritviz are all blocked from my Spotify.”
“Ritviz is Prateek Kuhad/Anuv Jain with more stages,” he said, and one person commented, “He’s right. It’s sluggish singing. We have witnessed what happened when singers like Dhwani Bhanushali and Ap Dhillon performed sans autotune.”
“He’s referring to Anuv Jain’s song. My god, I had the same feeling when I first heard the song. The lyrics are fine, but the singing is terrible in the second half of the song; it’s awful,” one user commented.
