On His Birth Day, Ahmad Faraz, The Legendary Poet, Is Commemorated

The 93rd anniversary of the birth of the poet Ahmad Faraz.

He was born Syed Ahmad Shah in Kohat on January 12, 1931.

Under the guidance of the renowned Faiz Ahmed Faiz, he changed his name from Ahmad Shah Kohati to Ahmad Faraz when he began writing poetry.

Tanha Tanha, his debut poetry collection, was released while he was still a graduating student. Through his poetry, Faraz gave the Urdu language a lot of color.

Because of his sophisticated yet straightforward poetry, Ahmed Faraz is considered one of the best Urdu poets of the modern era.

After the military coup of 1977, he utilized his pen to criticize military dictator Gen. Ziaul Haq, demonstrating his creative spirit of boldness and honesty.

During the military regime, he spent six years in prison and exile.

The Pakistani government recognized Ahmad Faraz’s literary achievements to the Urdu language with several honors, including the Adam Jee Literary Award, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, and Hilal-e-Imtiaz. On August 25, 2008, Ahmad Faraz departed from this life and was laid to rest in Islamabad
