The competition commission of Turkey announced on Wednesday that it has chosen to punish Facebook parent company Meta Platforms Inc (META.O) 4.8 million lira ($160,000) per day for neglecting to submit adequate documents during an earlier probe.

The Turkish Competition Board issued a statement stating that Meta was ordered to submit a document outlining compliance steps to cease its legal violations and restore competition in the market as a result of an inquiry into the 2022 online video advertising market.

The authority decided to impose a daily punishment starting on December 12 and continuing until a definitive compliance solution is presented to the board, claiming that it did not find the explanations in Meta’s compliance measures that were provided to the board satisfactory.

The authority fined Meta Platforms 346.72 million lira, or $11.57 million, in 2022 for breaking competition laws.

Mushtaq Khan Remembers That When Shah Rukh Khan Was Nothing, He Turned Down Major Films.

In an interview, Mushtaq Khan recalled that he was paid less than the employees of the movie Welcome, which starred Akshay Kumar.

Alongside Shah Rukh Khan, the veteran actor appeared in a number of TV series.

Actor Shah Rukh Khan has experienced hardships in his past. He began by attempting his luck in the television business, appearing in a number of well-known programs, including Circus and Fauji.

Mushtaq Khan was one of the numerous actors that collaborated with him in his early career.

The veteran actor recalls SRK turning down a big-budget film in an interview. Continue reading to find out why.

Veteran actor Mushtaq Khan remembered working with Shah Rukh Khan in an interview with Digital Commentary.

In an anecdotal statement, the actor mentioned that he co-starred with SRK in a television series named Umeed, which was filmed in Nashik.

He realized that SRK wouldn’t be around for very long when he began working with the megastar.

The Jawan actor once asked Khan about Pranlal Mehta, the producer. He introduced himself as a major producer. He was getting a lot of calls from Pranlal, Shah Rukh told him.

In response, the actor from Welcome proposed that SRK collaborate on that project. However, SRK encouraged him to wait and see.

Even yet, Mushtaq Khan urged him to finish the project right away and not to wait any longer.

Mushtaq Khan revealed in the same interview that he might have received a lower salary than Akshay Kumar’s crew for the movie.

Sadly, we spend a lot of money on’stars’ in our films. We travel independently, take economy class, and stay in accommodations that the manufacturers have provided.

The hotel in Dubai that I was assigned to was the same hotel that Akshay’s employees were staying at. Great movies frequently have this happen.”

That being said, he expressed the opinion that many filmmakers wish to eliminate this inequality in the business. “I am doing a film called Stree 2, and I get a lot of love, and they take care of everyone,” the Bala actor continued, reflecting on the situation.

Together, we have a ton of fun. I just performed Railway Men, and it was a blast. The producers treated me with a great deal of dignity.

Actors and producers of the younger age are succeeding greatly.”

Amalija Knavs, Melania Trump’s Mother, Passed Away At Age 78.

Melania Trump, the former first lady, revealed on social media on Tuesday that her mother, Amalija Knavs, passed away at the age of 78.

“I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija, with deep sadness,” Trump said in a message posted on X, the previous Twitter platform.

Amalija Knavs was a powerful woman who exuded warmth, dignity, and grace in everything she did. Her husband, children, grandson, and son-in-law all had her undivided attention.

We shall cherish and love her legacy forever, and we will mourn her terribly,” the statement read.

The announcement follows Donald Trump’s use of his Mar-a-Lago New Year’s Eve celebration to address his wife’s absence from Christmas family get-togethers.

Video footage shows that during the former president’s speech to the guests, he declared: “Melania — great first lady, so popular, the people love her — she’s now in a hospital with her mother.” Ources tell PEOPLE that the former first lady was not there for the Trumps’ New Year’s Eve celebration. Amalija, her mother, is quite sick, but ideally she will get well.

Trump, 77, went on: “But she’s been really sick, so I just wanted to say ‘hello’ to the first lady. We just spoke in this wonderful hospital down in Miami, and hopefully they’ll be okay.

However, it’s a difficult one—a very difficult one. She undoubtedly knows ninety-five percent of the folks in this room. All we want is for Amalija to recover as soon as possible.

Melania remained in regular contact with both her mother and her 79-year-old father, Viktor Knavs. In recent years, the Knavses have both been residing at Mar-a-Lago, which is also home to the former president and first lady.

A family-close source told PEOPLE that Amalija “has an excellent relationship with Melania and with Barron.” “They adore her.

She looks out for the family and is selfless. Melania has always gotten along great with Barron and her mother.”

Sony Division Is Still In Talks To Combine With Zee: Nikkei

Following media allegations that the Japanese corporation was intending to back out of the $10 billion transaction, the Nikkei reported on Wednesday, citing persons involved in the negotiations, that the Sony Group was still in talks with Zee Entertainment Enterprises to integrate their companies in India.

The Nikkei said that the negotiations will go on until the deal’s closing date of January 20.

Due to a deadlock over whether Zee CEO Punit Goenka, who is the subject of a regulatory investigation, will manage the combined firm, Bloomberg News revealed on Monday that Sony intended to submit a notice of termination before to the deadline.

Zee declared that the rumors that the contract had fallen through were “baseless and factually incorrect” and that it was still working to finalize the agreement.

Zee’s stock increased by as much as 4.5% on Wednesday following the Nikkei article.

In their worst session since April 2021, they had closed almost 8 percent lower on Tuesday because to worries about the implications of a merger collapse for the cash-strapped Indian broadcaster in a fiercely competitive sector.

With the impending merger of local powerhouse Reliance Industries and Walt Disney’s Indian media and entertainment operations, analysts say the agreement is critical to the companies’ future.

An inquiry for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by Sony India.

The 2021 merger was postponed when Goenka was banned from directorships in any listed company by India’s markets regulator in 2018 due to accusations that he was involved in embezzlement of company funds. However, a panel later overturned the ban.

A London coroner reported on Tuesday that Irish musician Sinead O’Connor passed away from “natural causes” last year.

In July of last year, the Grammy Award-winning singer—who gained notoriety for her 1990 rendition of “Nothing Compares 2 U”—was discovered unconscious at her south London residence. She was 56 years old.

At the time, London police stated that they were not considering it suspicious until an autopsy was conducted to ascertain the cause of her death.

The Southwark Coroner’s Court in south London released a brief statement stating: “This is to confirm that Ms. O’Connor passed away from natural causes. As a result, the coroner has stopped being involved in her passing.”

Following her passing, O’Connor’s hordes of admirers, including other musicians and celebrities worldwide, showered her with condolences.

On the day of her funeral last August, hundreds of people lined the route of her cortege in Bray, the Irish town 20 kilometers (13 miles) south of Dublin where she had lived in for 15 years.

The performer, who became well-known worldwide in the 1990s, faced criticism from some for her willingness to criticize the Catholic Church in particular, but she was also hailed as a trailblazer by others.

Before she passed away, O’Connor’s representatives disclosed that she was working on a new album, organizing a tour, and producing a film based on her autobiography, “Rememberings.”

The performer had already discussed her mental health in public, admitting to bipolar disorder and struggling with suicidal thoughts in an interview with US television personality Oprah Winfrey in 2007.

The Original Performer Of Sondheim’s “Send In The Clowns,” Glynis Johns, From “Mary Poppins,” Passes Away At The Age Of 100.

Tony Award-winning stage and film actor Glynis Johns, who popularized Stephen Sondheim’s sad anthem “Send in the Clowns” and portrayed Julie Andrews’ mother in the beloved film “Mary Poppins,” has passed away. She was a hundred years old.

Her manager, Mitch Clem, reported that she passed away on Thursday from natural causes at an assisted living facility in Los Angeles. Clem remarked, “Today’s a sad day for Hollywood.” She truly is the last of the old Hollywood greats.

Johns was well-known for being exact, analytical, and opinionated in her work as a perfectionist. She had to play a variety of roles. She was giving her all, and anything less than that.

In 1990, she stated to The Associated Press, “As far as I’m concerned, I’m not interested in playing the role on only one level.” Making it a reality is the entire purpose of top-notch acting. To tell the truth. And for me to be real, I have to make meaning of it in my own mind.”

The role of Desiree Armfeldt in “A Little Night Music,” for which Johns received a Tony Award in 1973, was her greatest success. Sondheim composed the popular song “Send in the Clowns” for the show specifically for her deep, husky voice; nevertheless, Elizabeth Taylor ended up playing the same role in the 1977 film adaptation.

Johns said to the AP in 1990, “I’ve had other songs written for me, but nothing like that.”

Sondheim’s most well-known song was also sung by Frank Sinatra, Judy Collins, Barbra Streisand, Sarah Vaughan, and Olivia Newton-John after Johns. Elijah Wood sang it in the second season of “Yellowjackets” in 2023.

When “A Little Night Music” was first being planned, elements of the text and score—including a solo piece for Johns—had not yet been completed when it went into rehearsal. To help book writer Hugh Wheeler come up with some ideas, director Hal Prince suggested she and co-star Len Cariou improvise a scene or two.

She told the AP, “Hal said, ‘Why don’t you just say what you feel?'” “After Len and I completed that, Hal called Steve Sondheim.”

A Private Initiative To Look Into Life On Venus’ Clouds

0

The hunt for extraterrestrial life has always piqued interest in humans.

Venus Life Finder, the first expedition of its kind, is now aiming to bring dreams to life by searching Venus’ sulfuric clouds for indications of life.

The private mission, led by MIT professor Sara Seager, is slated to launch on Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket in January 2025 as part of the Morning Star Missions series.

Seager’s groundbreaking research, supported by a group that includes her son Max Seager, casts doubt on the conventional wisdom that life could not exist in the sulfuric acid-rich clouds of Venus.

Their findings suggest that the essential building blocks of life, nucleic acid bases, might be stable in such a setting. According to this work, life may evolve to substitute sulfuric acid for water as a solvent.

The main goal of the mission is to look for evidence of organic chemistry in Venus’s atmosphere, which would confirm Seager’s theory.

Max Seager, a Worcester Polytechnic Institute undergraduate student, has made substantial contributions to this study, concentrating on amino acids specifically.

His interest in this area was prompted by a personal injury that gave him extra time.

The results of the team’s research have been published in scholarly journals like Astrobiology and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The latter group promotes more in-depth investigations of organic chemistry in solvents other than water to increase our comprehension of the habitability of the galaxy.

The scientists acknowledge that a follow-up trip to retrieve samples from Venus may be necessary to provide a clear evidence of life on the planet.

You May Now Smoke Your Spareribs Inside.

0

The newest smart kitchen appliance from GE Appliances eliminates an additional culinary inconvenience you may not have known you had: the need to go outside.

With the GE Profile Smart Indoor Smoker, you can use wood pellets to cook indoors without setting off every smoke detector in your house. It’s a countertop smoker.

The $999 device, which is the first indoor smoker in history, will be on display at CES 2024 the following week. However, if you’re eager to add that smoky flavor to your fish, ribs, or sprouts and you don’t even need to have a backyard, you can get it right now at Best Buy and Williams Sonoma.

Utilizing a technology known as Active Smoke Filtration, the appliance “turns real-wood smoke into warm air packed with flavor by using heat and a highly engineered catalyst system,” according to GE Profile. Seals and gaskets keep smoke out of your kitchen and inside the oven.

To help eliminate guesswork from the smoking process, a digital dial with presets and six preset settings for brisket, pork ribs, pork butt, chicken wings, chicken breast, and salmon allow you to fine-tune the temperature and intensity of the smoke.

A smoke and hold option is a useful feature of the indoor smart smoker that I haven’t seen in any of the outdoor smart smokers I’ve tested, such the Traeger.

Your meat will be cooked as a result, and it will be safe to consume for up to 24 hours.

The SmartHQ app from GE Profile is integrated with the smart smoker, enabling you to remotely watch your meat and adjust smoke levels.

The app, according to GE Profile, will also provide over-the-air feature updates, such as guided recipes that will follow you through the smoking process step-by-step.

The GE Profile smoker is big enough “to fit three racks of baby back ribs, a brisket, a whole chicken, up to 40 chicken wings, or a 14-pound pork butt,” despite being made to be tiny enough to fit on your counter.

The Indoor Smart Smoker was formerly known as Arden, an Indiegogo project created in a GE Appliances maker space.

Before launching as a GE Profile brand and joining the company’s other cutting-edge smart kitchen appliance, the first smart electric mixer, which made its debut at CES 2023, it raised more than $835,000 in funding.
