‘3 Body Problem’ creators push the boundaries of imagination

The ambitious science-fiction series “3 Body Problem” marks the return of David Benioff and DB Weiss, the creators of the enduring smash series “Game of Thrones” to television.

The pair has teamed up with “True Blood” writer-producer Alexander Woo to adapt “The Three-Body Problem,” the first book of a trilogy written by Chinese novelist Liu Cixin, for the big screen in the upcoming Netflix series.

“It’s probably even more ambitious than ‘Game of Thrones,'” said actor John Bradley, who now plays scientist-entrepreneur Jack Rooney on the HBO series.

With this, we can show anything because we are in the present, traveling back in time, and playing a virtual reality video game. Really, the only thing limiting us was our own imaginations.

“3 Body Problem” transports viewers beyond time and space, even beyond Beijing in 1966, amid the height of the Cultural Revolution. It is partially set in a virtual reality game where decisions made by a Chinese student studying astrophysics have an impact on the entire cosmos.

A group of British physicists known as “The Oxford Five” are currently trying to figure out why scientific studies conducted globally aren’t working. Unconventional investigator Da Shi (Benedict Wong), an agent of a covert intelligence organization, lends them a hand.

Brad Pitt, Rosamund Pike, Rian Johnson, and performers Eiza Gonzalez, Jovan Adepo, Jess Hong, and Jonathan Pryce comprise the ensemble cast of the eight-episode series.

Science fiction and fantasy are both present in this novel, although it’s not like insane aliens from a strange world showing up in costumes. It’s basically a real threat that humanity confronts, and it’s up to each of us to handle it,” Pryce added.

Liam Cunningham, another “Game of Thrones” alumnus who plays Thomas Wade, stated the show’s creators are being quiet about their plans to adapt the other two books in the trilogy.

“A few rumors have been heard,” he remarked.

“I enjoy its surprises, and I used to adore it when ‘Game of Thrones’ was involved.” Until you received the script, you had no idea when you would die. It maintains the attention since it’s a little unpredictable.”
