HomeEntertainment": A Mad Max Saga" will have its Cannes debut.

“: A Mad Max Saga” will have its Cannes debut.

The most recent entry in the post-apocalyptic series, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” will make its global premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15, the festival’s organizers said on Thursday.

Anya Taylor-Joy plays Furiosa in the fifth installment of the series; Theron portrayed the same role in 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which also made its Cannes premiere.

She co-stars with Chris Hemsworth as Warlord Dementus, the antagonist, in the film Furiosa: A Journey Home, where she fights against antagonistic gangs.

The most recent film, which is appearing at Cannes out of competition, is once more directed by Australia’s George Miller, who founded the franchise.

It all started with a very low-budget action movie about a near-future Australia suffering societal breakdown and energy shortages released in 1979, which also marked the beginning of Mel Gibson’s career.

Before the franchise made a triumphant comeback in 2015 with “Fury Road,” a highly acclaimed extravaganza starring Tom Hardy and winner of six Academy Awards, Gibson starred in two sequels in the 1980s.

Miller has directed a wide range of films, including the legendary story “Three Thousand Years of Longing,” which made its Cannes debut in 2022, and children’s classics like “Baby” and “Happy Feet.”

Greta Gerwig is in charge of the jury for the Cannes Film Festival, which takes place from May 14 to May 25. April 11 is when the full lineup is expected to be revealed.
