Basant night in Gujranwala flouts ban on kite flying

GUJRANWALA  – Gujranwala residents celebrated Basant night on Wednesday, despite a ban on the festival and kite flying.

They resorted to shooting in the air and flying kites despite the Punjab government’s ban on flying kites, creating twine, and selling kites and kite-related items.

A day ago, the Punjab Chief Minister asked the Punjab police to check kite flying and ensure a ban on Basant and kite flying.

Several videos went popular on social media, showing individuals firing into the air, blowing off fireworks, and flying kites.

A big number of folks flew kites throughout the city. Special arrangements were made to commemorate Basant Night. The police appeared incapable to enforce the kite flying prohibition.
