CEC should be tried under Article 6: Yasmin Rashid

LAHORE – Dr Yasmin Rashid, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, has urged for severe punishment for the Chief Election Commissioner for allegedly stealing the party’s mandate, urging that he be punished under Article 6.

During an interview with the media in the anti-terrorism court, Dr. Yasmin said that their mandate was stolen. She said that victorious MPAs and MNAs were defeated in the government formation process due to election cheating.

The former provincial minister also raised alarm about the resurgence of May 9 cases, with their employees jailed months after peaceful rallies. She called the cases unjust and targeted political workers.

She compared their approach to previous political marches, emphasizing political parties’ freedom to demonstrate peacefully. During the PTI’s reign, leaders such as Bilawal Bhutto, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and the Pakistan Muslim League (N) led extended marches without being arrested.

Furthermore, Dr. Yasmin Rashid noted that Maryam Nawaz was released from jail after three and a half months, as opposed to PTI ladies who spent 11 months in prison.
