Dar among four candidates vying for Capital Senate seats


ISLAMABAD – Four candidates, including former finance minister Ishaq Dar, are fighting for two open Senate seats in Islamabad.

According to the preliminary list of candidates, Dar is running for a technocrat seat as a joint candidate for the ruling coalition.

Advocate Ansr Kayani is the Sunni Ittehad Council’s candidate.

Rana Mahmoodul Hasan from the Peoples Party is running for the general seat in Islamabad, whereas Farzand Hussain Shah represents the Sunni Ittehad Council.

Members of the National Assembly in the federal capital will vote to elect Senate representatives, including one for the general seat and another for technocrats such as Ulema.

Members of the four provincial assembly will elect senators for seven general seats, two for women, and two for technocrats, including Ulema, from each province, as well as one for non-Muslims from Punjab and Sindh.

The nomination papers for the elections to fill forty-eight vacant Senate seats will be reviewed on Tuesday.

The amended candidate list will be revealed on the 26th of this month, with candidates having until the 27th to withdraw their candidacy papers. Polling is set for the second day of the forthcoming month.
