Federal cabinet takes oath

President Asif Ali Zardari delivered the oath to the ministers.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif selected a 19-member cabinet after “consultations” with party leadership and transmitted the names to the President.

The “expected” government consisted of 12 MNAs and three senators as federal ministers, as well as Shaza Fatima Khawaja as minister of state.

The cabinet contains a mix of old and fresh faces. Former defense minister Khawaja Asif, former finance minister Ishaq Dar, former planning minister Ahsan Iqbal, former law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, and ex-state minister for petroleum Musadik Malik are among the old war horses.

The ministers include Aleem Khan, the leader of the Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party, and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan.

Former caretaker Punjab chief minister Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board, PML-N’s Jam Jamal Khan, Amir Muqam, Awais Leghari, Attaullah Tarar, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, and PML-Q’s Salik Hussain are among the new cabinet members.

Muhammad Aurangzeb and former aide Ahad Cheema have both been appointed cabinet members.
