Pakistan asks Afghanistan to combat terrorism as ‘shared concern’ through ‘collective efforts’

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan urged Afghanistan on Friday, a day after a deadly explosion in Kandahar city, to confront terrorism as a common priority that required both countries’ combined efforts.

According to foreign media outlets, a suicide explosion in front of a bank in Kandahar city killed at least 21 people and injured another 12.

Pakistan strongly condemned Thursday’s terrorist incident and urged the Taliban administration to handle terrorism as a common concern through collaborative efforts, according to a Foreign Office statement.

“The government and the people of Pakistan extend their sincere condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the early recovery of the injured,” the statement said.

Pakistan underlined its condemnation of terrorism in all forms and expressions.

Late Thursday, the banned Islamic State claimed responsibility for the bombing via its Telegram channel.

The blast targeted civilians who had congregated in front of the bank to withdraw cash, according to a statement from the Kandahar police department.
