President Arif Alvi presented farewell guard of honour

ISLAMABAD – On Friday, President Dr Arif Alvi was given a farewell guard of honour by a well-dressed Pakistan Army detachment.  

The guard of honour event was held in Aiwan-e-Sadr. Dr. Arif Alvi will step down from his office on March 9 (Saturday), following the election of a new president.  

Meanwhile, Pakistan will elect its 14th president tomorrow (March 9).  

Former President Asif Ali Zardari and Mahmood Khan Achakzai are running for the presidency. Members of the four provincial assemblies, the Senate, and the National Assembly will vote in the presidential election. 

According to the Constitution, the chief election commissioner (CEC) will be the returning officer for the presidential election. Polling in the national and provincial assemblies will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m

The president is elected via an electoral college. Voters must carry their national and provincial assembly identification cards, as well as their Senate ID

If a voter makes any mark on the ballot paper that can be used to identify him, the vote is declared illegitimate

The presiding officer will open the voting boxes in front of the candidates and their representatives. The presiding officer will inspect the ballot papers and discard any incorrect votes.  

The presiding officer will count the votes and seal the votes earned by each contender in separate bags. The presiding officer will record the results on Form 5 and forward them to the returning officer, the chief election commissioner.
