The UK Coroner Declares That Sinead O’Connor Died Of “Natural Causes.”

A London coroner reported on Tuesday that Irish musician Sinead O’Connor passed away from “natural causes” last year.

In July of last year, the Grammy Award-winning singer—who gained notoriety for her 1990 rendition of “Nothing Compares 2 U”—was discovered unconscious at her south London residence. She was 56 years old.

At the time, London police stated that they were not considering it suspicious until an autopsy was conducted to ascertain the cause of her death.

The Southwark Coroner’s Court in south London released a brief statement stating: “This is to confirm that Ms. O’Connor passed away from natural causes. As a result, the coroner has stopped being involved in her passing.”

Following her passing, O’Connor’s hordes of admirers, including other musicians and celebrities worldwide, showered her with condolences.

On the day of her funeral last August, hundreds of people lined the route of her cortege in Bray, the Irish town 20 kilometers (13 miles) south of Dublin where she had lived in for 15 years.

The performer, who became well-known worldwide in the 1990s, faced criticism from some for her willingness to criticize the Catholic Church in particular, but she was also hailed as a trailblazer by others.

Before she passed away, O’Connor’s representatives disclosed that she was working on a new album, organizing a tour, and producing a film based on her autobiography, “Rememberings.”

The performer had already discussed her mental health in public, admitting to bipolar disorder and struggling with suicidal thoughts in an interview with US television personality Oprah Winfrey in 2007.
