On Thursday, fans are commemorating the seventh anniversary of the passing of renowned classical vocalist and Patiala family patriarch Ustad Fateh Ali Khan.
He was one of the top Khayal singers in the subcontinent, having been born in 1935, and one of the few musicians to achieve legendary status during his lifetime.
The late Ustad Amanat Ali Khan, a classical singer, had a younger brother named Ustad Fateh Ali.
He received the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and the Award Pride of Performance from the government in recognition of his achievements to the world of classical music.
Ustad Hamid Ali Khan reportedly remarked that he could not have accomplished anything in life without Fateh, who was his master.
As my father, he helped me a lot and taught me everything. According to what he previously said, “Such singers are born after centuries, and no doubt it is a big loss of our family and Patiala Gharana.”
Ustad Fateh Ali Khan embodied a bygone period and was one of the prominent figures who introduced classical music to this area, along with Ustad Salamat Ali Khan and Roshan Aara Begum.
He departed with a horde of admirers in Pakistan and outside.
He was classical music’s mentor. He was a valuable member of the Patiala family, our nation, and the music business.
At the age of 82, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan passed away in Islamabad.
