At the Haute Couture runway show by Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri displayed moire.

During the Christian Dior spring/summer show on Monday, the designer Maria Grazia Chiuri brought attention to moire fabric by crafting bustier dresses, belted trench coats, and coats with sleeves that shimmered.

The singer arrived as the final celebrity to take her seat; clad in a long, tight skirt and high heels, she carried a Lady Dior purse and wore a cap. The program didn’t begin until after she did.

Models wearing broad skirts, cape jackets, and flowing gowns circled the room. The muted color scheme, which was primarily composed of beige, gray, and black, drew the attention to the designs’ contours while highlighting the opulence of materials like satin, silk, and black velvet.

Some models wore open-toed wedge heels made of moire, a glossy fabric with rippling patterns, to provide a contemporary touch.

“The fabric has some shine, but not excessively,” Chiuri said to Reuters.

She remarked, “It’s very flexible,” and stated she intended to use it later.

The exhibition, which took place in a tent erected in the Rodin Museum’s grounds, was adorned with enormous, pressed garments—abstract replicas of Ottoman sultan apparel—as part of an artwork by Isabella Ducrot called “Big Aura.”

According to Chiuri, oversized proportions conjure the charisma and power that clothing may convey. She also mentioned the priceless quality of moire, which was worn by royals and had an amazing ability to reflect light.

Fit is crucial, but be careful, she advised.

“You can have an impressive dress — but if it doesn’t fit you, probably the result is not so magnificent.”

Run through January 25th, the Paris spring/summer haute couture presentations will feature a number of well-known brands, including LVMH-owned Fendi and Chanel, along with Imane Ayissi, Rahul Mishra, and Stephane Rolland.
