Dev Patel cries after receiving standing ovation at Monkey Man’s world premiere. Watch

Dev Patel, who plays the title role in Monkey Man, burst into tears as he earned a standing ovation at the film’s SXSW premiere.  

Dev Patel is preparing to display his acting abilities in the upcoming fast-paced action film Monkey Man. The actor, famed for his versatility in films such as Slumdog Millionaire, Lion, The Man Who Knew Infinity, and Hotel Mumbai, will play a vigilante superhero in his next. Dev not only wrote the narrative for Monkey Man, but he also directed and produced the film. He just became upset following a standing ovation at his film’s SXSW international premiere. In a video released by Variety, Dev was moved to tears when the screening’s crowd applauded and clapped for him as the credits rolled. He was awestruck as he thanked everyone with folded palms, attempting to hold back his tears.  

About Monkey Man  

The actor took part in some intense action scenes in the film. The teaser draws connections with folk stories, mysticism, and Lord Hanuman’s legend, as the main protagonist fights gangsters while wearing a monkey mask. Monkey Man is about a man’s quest for vengeance against the corrupt officials who killed his mother. The underdog superhero who works at a fight club resolves to take on the powers that be who oppress the poor and oppressed

Dev shot for Monkey Man during the COVID-19 epidemic.  

Despite the odds, the actor-turned-filmmaker shot for his passion project. Dev had various hurdles during the Covid-19 pandemic, including losing his gaffer to a heart attack, according to Deadline. He had broken his foot two weeks before the shoot and hurt his hand while filming. The actor explained to the site, “You can see in the film, there’s a wrap on my hand.” 

Monkey Man also stars Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Sikandar Kher, Sobhita Dhulipala, Ashwini Kalsekar, Aditi Kalkunthe, and Makarand Deshpande.
