LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday denied a petition demanding the immediate removal of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif’s image from a Ramazan ration bag.
Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court heard the plea to have Nawaz Sharif’s picture removed from ration bags. The petitioner’s lawyer, Salma Riaz, submitted arguments on his behalf.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that public funds could not be used for personal promotion, and that distributing flour in such a manner violated residents’ dignity.
The petitioner asked the court to suspend printing the PML-N leader’s portrait on ration bags. He also asked the court to direct the relevant authorities not to hurt citizens’ self-esteem when distributing the flour.
He also asked the court to issue an order mandating the Punjab government to pay money from the Benazir Income Support Programme to citizens at their doorsteps.
The court denied the request to immediately remove Nawaz Sharif’s photo from Ramazan package ration bags and issued a notice to the Punjab administration for a response.
