Suneil Shetty praised Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor as “the greatest dancing stars of our industry” during Dance Deewane.
The forthcoming episode of Dance Deewane will evoke intense nostalgia for the 1990s. Karisma Kapoor will participate as a guest judge on the show, alongside Suniel Shetty from Rakshak and Madhuri Dixit from Dil To Pagal Hai. Madhuri and Suniel are the judges on Dance Deewane. Madhuri and Karisma recreate Dance of Envy.
Children of the 1990s have reason to celebrate. A trailer for the forthcoming Dance Deewane episode has Madhuri and Karisma performing their legendary face-off Dance of Envy from Yash Chopra’s 1997 blockbuster romance musical Dil To Pagal Hai, composed by Uttam Singh. In the film, both actors were put alongside Shah Rukh Khan and competed in an unplanned dance battle as part of their one-upmanship.
While they were dressed in black athleisure for Dance of Envy in the film, Karisma and Madhuri wore black and yellow ethnic clothes on the show. They engaged in an exciting face-off as the live audience cheered them on. Suniel Shetty gave them a standing ovation, describing them as “the greatest dancing stars of our industry.” Host Bharti Singh also heaped admiration on the two actors.
The internet couldn’t contain its joy, either. In the comments section, one Instagram user said, “My all-time favourite dance (heart eyes emoji).” Another user said, “Seems like it was yesterday (red heart emojis) they still young omg (red heart and fire emojis).” “The reunion we didn’t know we needed,” a third one wrote.
Karisma’s Role in Dil To Pagal Hai
Interestingly, many leading ladies were offered to portray Karisma’s role of Nisha in Dil To Pagal Hai, but they declined to play minor roles in a Yash Chopra romance starring Shah Rukh and Madhuri. Furthermore, they did not want to compete against Madhuri in the dance off. After Kajol, Juhi Chawla, Urmila Matondkar, Manisha Koirala, and Raveena Tandon turned down the role, Karisma took it and won a National Award for her performance.
Karisma will next appear in her debut show, Brown. Meanwhile, Madhuri is expected to play a ghost alongside Vidya Balan’s Manjulika in Bhool Bhulaiya 3.
