Meat is necessary to prevent anxiety and depression.

A leading nutrition specialist has stated that eating meat is crucial for preventing anxiety and sadness, which is a blow to vegans.

Nutritional and metabolic psychiatrist Dr. Georgia Ede is trained at Harvard and specializes in the connection between diet and both physical and mental health.

Furthermore, she argues that giving up meat may be harmful to mental health, even with the recent boost in popularity of vegan diets.

She said on KIRO News Radio, “The brain needs meat.”

“We’re used to hearing that plants are actually the best way to nourish and protect our brains, and that meat is dangerous for our total health, including our brain health.”

However, the reality is that that’s actually backward and upside down.

While eating enough protein has long been a concern with vegan diets, according to Dr. Ede, eating meat is about more than just protein.

As she put it, “it’s actually more about all of the other nutrients that are inside meat and less about protein.” “If you plan it carefully, a vegan or vegetarian diet can meet your needs for protein.”

Amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, aid in the development and maintenance of bones and muscles.

Protein is present in vegan foods like lentils and broccoli even though it’s also found in animal goods like eggs, meat, cheese, and Greek yogurt.

“However, obtaining many other essential nutrients from plants can be much more challenging, if not impossible,” according to Dr. Ede

“The only food that contains every nutrient we need in its proper form and is the safest food for our blood sugar and insulin levels,” the speaker said of beef.

These nutrients consist of iron, zinc, choline, vitamin B12, and omega-3 fatty acids.

For example, vitamin B12 aids in the synthesis of DNA and oxygen-rich red blood cells. Nevertheless, it has also been connected to the regulation of serotonin, which elevates mood; low serotonin levels have been associated with an increased risk of anxiety and depression.

Additionally, because zinc helps lessen brain inflammation, a review published in the journal Frontiers in Pharmacology discovered a link between depression and reduced zinc levels.

There is evidence from multiple research indicating those who eat meat have better mental health.
