LAHORE -Farmers will begin protesting outside the Punjab Assembly at 2 p.m. today (Monday) over the government’s failure to procure wheat.
As the Kisan Ittehad Pakistan announced its intention to launch a protest campaign, the Punjab administration prepared a strategy to prevent farmers from entering the provincial capital.
According to reports, huge police contingents have been deployed on the freeway and roads leading into Lahore, arresting a big number of farmers.
Kisan Ittehad. Pakistan’s General Secretary, Mian Umair, stated that the government had shut the motorway interchanges. So far, more than 12 buses carrying farmers have been stopped and their occupants arrested, he said.
He stated that Rashid Minhala, President of the Kisan Board Punjab, had already been arrested.
Meanwhile, district presidents and officials from other districts, including Chiniot and Kasur, were arrested last night.
PTI, SIC JOINS FARMERS.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) have agreed to participate in the farmers’ protest.
